Crystals
Magaliesberg Crystal
The Magaliesberg is one of the oldest mountain ranges in the world - 2300 million years old, or 100 times the age of the Himalayas.
The bundles of small crystals that encircle the bases of larger crystals typify Magaliesberg crystal, which forms as quartz, amethyst, citrine or ametrine, or even sometimes as a combination of these,
probably due to the age of the Magaliesberg, and the fact that this range is considered to be "the Cradle of Humankind" an inordinate number of the Magaliesberg crystals exhibit the properties of a "record keeper" i.e. one or more raised perfect triangles located on one or more of the crystal faces. The "record keeper" is a crystal within which wisdom is stored, and from which the ancient knowledge and profound secrets of the universe can be psychically retrieved.
Magaliesberg crystals can be used in meditation to provide insights into family and/or community problems. They also help to stimulate group cohesiveness and a willingness to work together.
Desert Rose
gypsum (caso4.2h2o) (hydrated calcium sulphate).
desert roses are formed of interpenetrating platy crystals enclosing sand grains, these popular collector's items are found mainly in the deserts of morocco, Tunisia, Arizona, New Mexico and Namibia, with perhaps the most spectacular specimens occurring in Namibia.
although many desert roses were taken from Namibia, it is now illegal to remove or even dig for them without a licence.
Calcite
Comes in various crystalline forms including masses, grains, stalactites, scalenohedrons (12 faced crystals, each face exhibiting 3 unequal sides) and rhombohedrons (6 faced crystals, each face the shape of a rhombus). The rhombohedron crystallisation is most characteristic of calcite. The range of colours flows through colourless, white, green, pink, blue, peach, golden, orange, yellow, red grey or black, dependent upon the other compounds blended with calcite during crystallisation.
Iceland spar is the name for optical quality calcite, which is extensively used in the manufacture of laser lenses.
Citrine
A variety of quartz, the colour being in the range from yellow to golden brown.
Citrine does not hold and accumulate negative energy, but dissipates and transmutes it. Therefore it never needs clearing or cleansing.
Citrine is known as "the merchant's stone". It assists in acquiring and maintaining a state of wealth.
It provides a positive influence on the areas of education, business pursuits and interpersonal relationships. It is used for soothing family or group problems, producing cohesiveness within the associate members.
It can be used as an aid to digestion and in the treatment of degenerative disorders as well as to balance the thyroid and activate the thymus.
Dioptase
The world's best examples of this mineral are found in Tsumeb (Namibia). It is one of the rarest of the copper based minerals and is much sought after by collectors. The very rare large crystal are also used in jewellery.
dioptase is known as one of the best and most versatile healing stones of the age.
Aegerine
(a.k.a.acmite). Typified by the columnar, prismatic crystal structure. Aegerine acts to concentrate the positive energy in an area and to interact with all present.
Prehnite
A stone for dreaming and remembering, helpful for furthering the avenues available during meditation.
Used for treatment of kidney disorders, gout and anaemia
Orbicular Agate
(a.k.a.atlantis stone). Found off the coast of Madagascar this stone exhibits patterns of ring like designs.
It provides a powerful force to balance the energy fields of the chakras.
Labradorite
(Madagascar) a.k.a. spectralite. Considered to have been used by Viking sailors to determine the position of true north, this stone is said to represent the "temple of the stars".
It has been used in the treatment of disorders of the brain and is said to stimulate mental activity and to reduce stress.
Carnelian
(Madagascar) protects against fear and rage and helps to banish sorrow from the emotional structure. Used in the treatment of gallstones, kidney stones, hay fever and colds
Red Phantom quartz
(Madagascar) stimulates creativity, intellectual advancement and intuitive endeavours. Stimulates the cellular structure of the body
Amethyst
the stone of spirituality & contentment, amethyst is the panacea for all ills.
Originally named by the ancient Greeks as "amethystos" meaning "cure for drunkenness", amethyst is regarded as being helpful in conquering all addictions. It is also used in the treatment of insomnia and to ameliorate pain from headaches and other disorders.
Smokey Quartz
colour range includes light smokey grey to dark smokey grey and black. It is an excellent grounding stone and provides protective energy around the user, it does not retain negative energy and never requires cleansing. Smokey quartz is a "stone of cooperation" stimulating the unification of energies directed towards the same goal. It can be used to dissipate congestion from the physical organs and glands located in the solar plexus area, and to relieve disorders of the hands and feet.
Akasha
The fifth element, the omnipresent spiritual power that permeates the universe. It is the energy out of which the elements formed the Spirit.
Mystical Magaliesburg
Ley Lines.
Ley lines are geometrically straight lines of energy which are arranged in a web-like pattern over the earth. When two or more ley lines intersect, a power point emanates the concentration of the natural energy forces.
Vortex.
A vortex is the intersection of multiple ley lines, creating an immensely powerful area with respect to the concentration of natural energy forces. The area of the vortex tends to enhance all psychic abilities and facilitates healing energies.
Some of the more famous ley vortices are:
Stonehedge and Avebury (England).
Topo Do Mondo (Brazil).
Kathmandu (Nepal).
Browns Mountain (U.S.A.).
Ayres Rock (Australia).
Giza & Luxor (Egypt).
Lima (Peru).
AND, Magaliesburg (South Africa).
Geology.
The Magaliesburg is the oldest mountain range in the world (some 2 300 million yearsold) - 100 times the age of the Himalayas. The range was formed when Gondwanaland split and two large slabs of crust or upper mantle (known as plates) collided.
The area is renowned for the chrome and platinum deposits (over 50% of the worlds resources) on the northern slopes of the Magaliesburg and through the Rustenburg basin.
The Blaauwbank mine was where the first discovery of gold was made in the Transvaal (by Henry Lewis in 1874).
The largest ever Galena Crystal found in the southern hemisphere (86 tonnes) was mined between Hekpoort and Skeerpoort.
